The trial of nine defendants opened this morning. They are charged with mafia-type association, as members of the Brancaccio-Ciaculli mafia district of Palermo, as well as with extortion, drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons and aiding and abetting.

The trial concerning extortion in the Noce neighbourhood has concluded at first instance. Addiopizzo joined as a civil party together with a building contractor and his worker who, with the association’s support, stood up to the extortion attempts.
