The gathering will take place at <strong>10:30 AM<\/strong> at the <strong>Addiopizzo <\/strong>headquarters, a property seized from the mafia, inaugurated in <strong>2010 <\/strong>and named by the association after <strong>the State Police officer<\/strong>.<br \/>In the presence of his wife <strong>Giovanna Geraci<\/strong>, colleagues, and friends, Mario will be remembered by representatives of Addiopizzo, <strong>Maurizio Calvino<\/strong>, Palermo\u2019s Chief of Police, and <strong>Maurizio de Lucia<\/strong>, Chief Prosecutor of the Sicilian capital\u2014those who shared <strong>part of their lives and professional paths with him<\/strong>.<br \/>We owe a great deal to <strong>Mario Bignone <\/strong>for the <strong>recognition<\/strong> and <strong>legitimacy <\/strong>he always granted to Addiopizzo.   <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mario Bignone was not only an <strong>outstanding police officer<\/strong> who <strong>served the State<\/strong> and made a <strong>significant contribution to the fight against Cosa Nostra<\/strong>.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-96579 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/addiopizzo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Mario-Bignone-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/addiopizzo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Mario-Bignone-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/addiopizzo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Mario-Bignone.jpg 393w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><br \/>Back in <strong>2006<\/strong>, while serving in the <strong>Organized Crime Division<\/strong> in Palermo, Mario was <strong>the first police<\/strong> official to open his office to us and begin a collaboration that, for the first time, helped spark a wave of <strong>business owners and shopkeepers reporting extortion rackets.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A <strong>pioneer<\/strong> for his <strong>vision<\/strong> and <strong>ability to include and engage citizens and the broader social <\/strong>fabric, Mario paid close attention to relationships beyond institutional roles\u2014especially in the field of <strong>preventing <\/strong>and <strong>combating extortion rackets and Cosa Nostra<\/strong>, with all its interests and cultural codes.
