We have just received another significant donation from the two American tour operators, which have been supporting Addiopizzo thought the last eight years.
Country Walkers and VBT Bicycling Vacations are both market leaders in active vacations: the former is specialized in walking tours, the latter in bike tours. Responsible tourism has always been an integral part of our core values. They have supported sustainable tourism projects in all the countries where they operate their tours, by participating in a variety of initiatives to promote the preservation of the environment and the empowerment of local communities. The idea is simple and powerful: through their Travelers’ Fund program, they make a small donation on behalf of every traveler, which goes toward supporting sustainability projects around the world. While enjoying their vacation, each traveler becomes an active part of the change in progress.
Since many American travellers choose Sicily, at the end of each year many small donations becomes a substantial sum for a self-financed non-profit organization based on voluntary work, like Addiopizzo. VBT and County Walkers are helping Addiopizzo to keep working on our core activities – the assistance toward the victims of Mafia extortion racket, the critical consumptionn campaign, the work on education and social inclusion.
The struggle for the liberation of Sicily does not only depend on the arrest of the Mafia bosses, but includes simple, daily actions and a steady community-based work. Both VBT and Country Walkers know it very well and fully embraced our mission.
